The word plastic surgery is derived from the Greek word “plasticos” which means to conform, formative surgery. This is in essence why I love being a plastic surgeon. To be able to witness the conformation that can be achieved in a person’s life by doing a surgical procedure. Whether it is a small procedure like the removal of an unwanted mole or to witness the change in a woman’s life and self esteem after a cosmetic procedure. Imagine the smile on the parent’s faces after the repair of a cleft lip in a baby or to witness a deformed patient after cancer or trauma surgery being able to be integrated back into society.
I adhere to the motto:
“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs, but ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive”.
I am a fully qualified specialist plastic and reconstructive surgeon, the equivalent of board certified. I am a member of or registered with the following professional bodies:
• Registered as a specialist plastic and reconstructive surgeon with the Health Professions Council of SA.
• Member of the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of SA (APRSSA)
• Member of Smile Train, helping underprivileged children with cleft lips and palates
• I graduated from medical school at the University of Pretoria in 1998. I specialised in Plastic Surgery at the University of the Free State and attained my degree in 2008.
I have been in private practice at the Greenacres Hospital in Port Elizabeth since 2008. I regularly attend local and International congresses to stay up to date with the latest techniques.
My wife Esmé has been my support and inspiration. We have a son Chris and daughter Mignon.
Apart from plastic surgery, I enjoy what the “adventure province” has to offer. When I am not working, I can be found training for Ironman triathlon, mountain biking in nature or running with my wife. I have recently taken up surfing, but needs much more practice.
I enjoy art, music and sketching.
We believe that God has a clear purpose for us in Port Elizabeth.
